iPhone SE: A Perfect Upgrade from iPhone 7?

Scroll down to content

Apple released the second generation of iPhone SE this week, and according to us, it is the perfect phone for people using an iPhone 6s or iPhone 7. Apple revived the name SE with a new 4.7-inch model that looks like an iPhone 8 with internals similar to those of the iPhone 11.

iPhone SE: Performance

The gains in performance has to be the biggest feature of the iPhone SE 2020, Apple has fitted the iPhone SE 2020 with the same A13 Bionic chip that’s included in the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max, which we all know is the fastest chip ever to be used in a smartphone. It is much faster than the A11 that was in the iPhone 8, as well as more power-efficient, which improves battery life.

The A13 chip has an 8-core Neural Engine, which provides blazing fast real-time photo and video analysis. The A13 chip also has a pair of Machine Learning Accelerators allow the CPU to run up to six times faster, delivering more than 1 trillion operations per second. The RAM figures are not disclosed by Apple as usual, but according to the rumours, the iPhone SE 2020 comes with 3GB of RAM.

iPhone SE: Design

Even though the phone is named after 2016 iPhone SE that shared the same design of the iPhone 5, the 2020 iPhone SE is identical to the iPhone 8. It features a 4.7-inch display with bezels at the top and bottom of the device. The top bezel features a cutout for the front-facing camera, speaker, and accompanying sensors, and at the bottom of the device, there’s a Touch ID Home button covered in sapphire crystal.

Just like the iPhone 8, the iPhone SE 2020 has an all-glass body that uses a seven-layer ink process to add colour to the glass. The glass display and the glass body are held together by an aluminium band that matches the colour of each iPhone for a seamless look. The measurements of iPhone SE 2020 are similar to the iPhone 8. It measures in at 138.4mm tall by 67.3mm wide, it’s 7.3mm thick, and it weighs 5.22 ounces.

The new iPhone SE 2020 comes in 3 colours, white, space grey and a (PRODUCT)RED version that features a bright red glass-backed shell.

iPhone SE: Display

The iPhone SE features the same 4.7-inch display that was used in the iPhone 8 with a resolution of 1334 by 750 with 326 pixels per inch and a 1400:1 contrast ratio. It features multi-touch capabilities, P3 wide colour support for rich, true-to-life colours, and 625 nits max brightness.

iPhone SE 2020 also comes with True Tone takes advantage of the ambient light sensor to detect the lighting in a room, adjusting the colour temperature and intensity to match the light for a more natural, paper-like viewing experience that cuts down on eye strain.

iPhone SE: Camera

iPhone SE is featured with a single 7-megapixel front-facing camera, and on the back it has a single camera setup there’s a single-lens 12-megapixel rear camera in the iPhone SE with an f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization, and support for Portrait Mode and Portrait Lighting.

The stupendously great Night Mode feature that we see in iPhone 11, and 11 Pro’s is not included in the iPhone SE 2020, but there is Smart HDR, Wide colour support, and more, plus an LED True Tone to flash with Slow Sync capabilities.

The iPhone SE’s camera can record 4K video at up to 60 frames per second with optical image stabilization and support for slow-mo video and time-lapse video. The front-facing camera supports Portrait Mode as well using the image signal processor and Neural Engine of the A13 Bionic.

iPhone SE: Other Features

Water and Dust Resistance: The iPhone SE features an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, which means it is entirely dustproof and able to withstand one meter of water (3.3 feet) for up to 30 minutes. The iPhone SE will hold up to splashes, rain, and brief accidental water exposure, but intentional water exposure should continue to be avoided.

TouchID: Apple’s flagship iPhones feature an all-glass design with Face ID, but to keep costs low, the iPhone SE continues to offer a Home button with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Haptic Touch: Haptic Touch works similarly to 3D Touch and offers a lot of the same functionality, but it is not pressure-sensitive and does not support multiple functions for each press.

Who is it Perfect for?

Veteran iPhone users were used to the fact that iPhones are very handy, not too big not too small, and with some of the latest iPhones, people who prefer a small phone were hanging on to their iPhone 6 and 7’s, but with the introduction of iPhone SE 2020, those users can finally upgrade to a phone that they are comfortable with, and they will be doing that without compromising any functionality.

iPhone SE 2020 is the entry-level iPhone that Apple makes, and it has opened itself up to the people who don’t want to spend much to just experience the iPhone and its features. The brand new iPhone SE 2020 is a no brainer purchase for people who are still using iPhone 6 or iPhone 6S.
